Weekend to Enjoy
Temperatures are slightly cooler than average for the date, but overall the next three days will be pleasant. Bright sunshine dominates the sky today. Clouds arrive Sunday. Then Monday and Tuesday will be... well, the technical meteorological term is "yucko"--cloudy, cool, rainy, foggy. Looking toward Merlefest later next week (Thursday through Sunday), expect cooler than average temperatures. With a bit of luck, The Foothills will be rid of most showers just in time.
Voting is underway in the 2019 Blue Ridge Parkway Calendar Photo Contest. We received over 700 entries in the contest (the most ever). Many thanks to all the photographers for the great response. Voting will continue until May 1, 2018.

Forecast Discussion
High pressure slides slowly across the Eastern U. S. today through Sunday. Pleasant but cooler than average weather is the result. Clouds increase Sunday.
Low pressure strengthens in Texas and moves across the Southeast early next week in response to an upper-level low trolling the Tennessee Valley, then slowly moving toward the Mid-Atlantic. A cool wedge forms across the Southern Appalachians and Foothills. Monday and Tuesday will be cloudy, foggy, chilly, and rainy.
A parade of upper level disturbances travelling into the mean trough position over the eastern United States will keep things unsettled (lingering showers) Wednesday and Thursday across the mountains; however, with a bit of luck, we can get most of this out of the way for the Foothills in time for Merlefest. Cooler than average temperatures continue right through next weekend.
