High Country: This week looks to be a repeat of many of the prior weeks. Most of the color here in the High Country is finished. There are, however, some surprising places here and there where you will come around a curve and there staring you in the face is a brilliant patch of color.

Each year the oak trees lose their leaves last. Many of them actually hold on until the next year's leaves push them out of the way. With that said, you will see some browns, tans, and perhaps a russet here and there. That's the oaks on the hillsides.

This weekend looks to be slightly damp on Saturday with the sun making a reappearance on Sunday along with seasonal temperatures. You can get a local forecast for all of the High Country at www.raysweather.com. Just choose your county on the map then select your town under "forecast."

This weekend, if you are visiting, you may want to take in the Ghost Train at Tweetsie Railroad - make sure to get your tickets early. For the younger ones, stop by the Watauga Country Library in Downtown Boone at 2 p.m. for the Ninth Annual Downtown BOO! Waynesville: You have probably heard that I-40 is closed near the Tennessee border. If you follow this link, you will find detour information. Interstate 40 is open to and through Asheville and Waynesville.

As of yesterday morning, before the intense rains that we had, there were some lovely colors off Route 215. Go to the Exxon station on Main Street in Waynesville and turn on Highway 276. Go about 5 miles turn right on 215 and enjoy! This route will eventually take you to an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The contrasting colors make what is left something to behold. I'm hoping that there will be some left when you visit.

Hendersonville/Asheville: Folks, this is what we've been waiting for! Everywhere I drove the last few days was worthy of picture taking. Our weather has been resplendent until today, which dawned with at least a day's worth of clouds that started to empty during the late morning. I'm guessing that when it stops a lot more leaves will be on the ground, but there were plenty to go around and the viewing should/could continue through the weekend. The red oaks that were so gorgeous last year are crispy and brown, so we don't expect much from them. I would say that most trees are at peak. The weather will offer a mixture of rain and sunshine with pleasant temperatures, but here will provide you with what to expect at the moment.

My husband played golf at Connestee Falls located close to Brevard in nearby Transylvania County - don't you just love that name, which is particularly appropriate this week. He carries a camera with him to capture special moments or a particularly beautiful scene, which we're sharing with you. Below you can glimpse a bit of what he saw, which included a total of 23 deer on the course. The altitude is a bit higher than Henderson County and they were almost at peak.

Downtown Hendersonville stores will again host the annual Halloween Costume and and Trick-or-Treat Street, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on October 31. Greenville, SC: It is a good time to visit the Greenville area for the leaves this week as most, if not all, are starting to show color. The maples, beech, elms, poplars, walnuts and oaks along with many others are showing good color this season. Hopefully, they will hold their leaves for a couple of weeks. The weather this week will be sunny and mild with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. By this weekend it is going to cool down with highs in the 50s and lows at night in the 30s with a chance of rain on Friday and Saturday.

A great place to visit in downtown Greenville this week is Heritage Green. With all the fall colors changing you can take a stroll through the park-like setting visiting the different attractions it has to offer. It is an urban arts and cultural campus that comprises four museums, the Greenville County Museum of Art, the Museum & Gallery at Heritage Green, the Upcountry History Museum and the Children's Museum. There is also the Greenville Little Theatre and the Hughes Main Library of the Greenville County Library System at Heritage Green. Heritage Green is located on College Street, just three blocks from the Hyatt Regency.
