The event will be held on June 10 from 6-7:30pm at the Watauga County Agricultural Conference Center. Bring a dish to share, your own beverage, and join BRWIA in hearing from a panel of local producers of meat products including beef, pork, and poultry. The farmers will describe how they raise their animals and will discuss the barriers involved in raising animals on a small scale. Blowing Rock annual juried art and craft show featuring 100 exhibitors.
HIDEArt in the Park in Blowing Rock, North Carolina begins its 46th year, on May 17th! This award-winning series features the works of juried artisans from all over the Eastern U.S. in metal, fiber, watercolor and oil painting, wood, photography, basketry, jewelry, clay, glass and more. The Chamber of Commerce provides free shuttles throughout the day. Just park your car at Tanger Outlet Center or the Food Lion Grocery on Highway 321 bypass, and hop on the shuttle which will bring you right into downtown Blowing Rock. The show is located at the American Legion Grounds just behind Memorial Park and admission is FREE. Show hours are 10 am til 5 pm. Dates for this year’s shows are: May 17, June 14, July 19, August 16, September 13 & October 4.

HIDE Learn abaout Living with Mental Illness Saturday May 17, 2008 at the Watauga Library
As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, the High Country affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness is hosting a presentation at the Watauga Library at 1 pm on Saturday May 17th. Individuals diagnosed with a serious mental illness will be the featured speakers and will discuss the impact that having a mental illness has had on their lives. There will also be a video that will look at various aspects of mental illness including Dark Days, Acceptance, Treatment, Coping Strategies, and Successes, Hopes and Dreams.
HIDEThe program is interactive and will last for approximately 90 minutes. There will be time for questions. One out of four families has a member with a diagnosis of mental illness. This presentation is an opportunity for family members to learn more about what this is like for their loved ones and what they can to to support them.
HIDE High Country Academy Opens May 22
Rainbow Center – Children & Family Services (RCCFS) is proud to announce the Grand Opening of High Country Academy (HCA) on May 22. This event will kick-off with a Ribbon Cutting at 4 p.m. and open house afterwards until 6 p.m. HCA is located at 8996 U.S. Hwy 221 in Fleetwood.
HIDEHigh Country Academy (HCA) will help children ages 10-17 who are unable to attend public school because of behavioral problems. The program will teach appropriate behaviors, provide counseling, require parental involvement, and offer basic academics.
RCCFS began this effort in February 2007 and just over a year later the facility is preparing to open the doors for children with identified treatment needs such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), anger issues, depression, problems with substance abuse, and various others.
HCA will serve approximately 24-48 children year round from Ashe, Watauga, and Wilkes Counties. The program has a maximum of 12 children per classroom and a four to one child to staff ratio.
HCA is a collaborative effort between RCCFS, the Greater Fleetwood Preservation Organization (GFPO), and the Ashe, Watauga, and Wilkes County School Systems.
