Colder With Snow Showers

Today's cold front brought an end to our beneficial rains. Tonight will be colder with snow showers and flurries continuing well into Thursday. Accumulations by late Thursday will generally be in the dusting to 3" range (the higher amounts on the west side of the Appalachians and at higher elevations; the lesser amounts east and at lower elevations). A few favored high elevations near the TN/NC line will be in line for 5" or so. After a cold Thursday, temperatures will moderate somewhat Friday afternoon. Another front will bring rain showers Saturday followed by colder temperatures early next week.

The 2009 RWC Calendars are on sale now. $2 from the sale of every calendar will go to the Hospitality House Combined Campaign.

Forecast Discussion

A cold front moved through today. The heaviest rain was early this morning with rain showers changing to snow showers this afternoon. High temperatures today occurred this morning with falling afternoon temperatures along with gusty winds.

Snow showers will continue tonight in the wraparound northwest flow. Snow showers will continue through a good part of the day Thursday. Precipitation will be enhanced by a disturbance moving across the Southern Appalachians late tonight and Thursday; this disturbance will "spread the love" from west to east a little better than some of these northwest flow snow events. Total accumulation by late Thursday are expected to be in the a dusting to 3" across the region (more on the west side of the Appalachians and at higher elevations, the lesser amounts east and at lower elevations). But there will be a few reports of 5" or so in the favored high elevations right along the TN/NC line. Snow showers will end as flurries late Thursday.

The flow across the country will quickly flatten to zonal Friday resulting in moderating temperatures by Friday afternoon.

Another front will move through Saturday. Expect a relatively mild Saturday with mostly afternoon rain showers. Colder air will return Saturday night with a few flurries possible.

Sunday and Monday look seasonably chilly but dry. Even colder air is expected by Tuesday as a trough in the Eastern US deepens. Another round of snow showers is expected to accompany Tuesday's cold surge. Cold and colder weather is expected through most of next week.
