Friends of the Watauga County Public Library will again host a reception immediately following the Boone Christmas Parade, on Saturday Dec. 12th at the Watauga County Public Library. The Watauga County Public Library in Boone will be closed for four consecutive days for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Library will be closed on Thursday, November 26th (Thanksgiving Day); Friday, November 27th; Saturday, November 28th; and Sunday, November 29th (as is usual for Sundays). Western Watauga Branch Library will also be closed on these days. The Library will reopen on Monday, November 30th. Happy Thanksgiving wishes from all the Staff of Watauga County Public Library!

Boone auditions are scheduled for November 22, 5:30-8:00 at Chapel Wilson Hall in room 111 on the ASU campus. Chapell Wilson Hall is the stone building next to the ASU Library, behind the Valborg Theatre and is easily accessible from King St, room 111,is right off of the main hallway, and is on the second floor. There is only minimum amount of parking available at Chapell Wilson, but the Library parking deck (behind the Library and next to Chapell Wilson) will be open. Blowing Rock auditions are scheduled for November 23, 5:30-8:00, location TBA. Performance dates are December 18th and 19th. Adults, Please prepare a Christmas Song or Carol to sing a cappella (without accompaniment) Children/Student Auditions: You do not need to prepare a song, you will be given a piece of a Christmas Song to sing at the auditions. November 8th 2:00 pm Birds and their Nests Join a park ranger at the US Hwy 221 Access, Visitor Center to learn something about the birds you might see in the park. We will take a short hike to see if we can find any nests, and identify them. Dress appropriately for the outdoors. November 15th 2:00 pm Winter Tree Identification Meet a park ranger at the Wagoner Road Access at 2:00 pm for a short hike to help learn to identify some trees common in our area. Dress appropriately for the outdoors. November 21st 2:00 pm Caution! Whitetail Deer! Join a park ranger to learn about the Whitetail Deer, and look at ways to decrease vehicle/deer accidents. Meet at the US Hwy 221 Access Visitors Center. November 28th 1:00 pm Benefits of Native Grasses Native grasses are the building blocks for a natural ecosystem. Come out to New River State Park and find out which grasses are native, how to propagate them and find out interesting benefits of establishing native grasses including natural bird feed and ornamental gardening. Free sample pack of native grass see to the first 10 participants. Meet at the Visitor Center at the US Hwy 221 Access for a 30 minute slide show and discussion. Rainbow Center-Children and Family Services-Bridges Foster Care Program. Bridges Foster Care serves children from all over Northwestern North Carolina ages birth to 21. They provide children with a safe and loving family or theraputic foster home. Bridges Foster Parents receive training and support from RCCFS. NAMI Connections Recovery Support Group NAMI Connections recovery support group is for adults with mental illness regardless of their diagnosis. Every group is offered free of charge and meets for 90 minutes. All are led by trained individuals who are also in recovery-people who understand the challenges we face.
